2018 International workshop in Asia university 4.26-4.30

2018 International design workshop was held in March 26th to 30th. First day in the workshop
all the students were shocked by the workshop teacher who is Leeds university professor,
Micheal Hann, from the UK. He told us he don't allow students to be late. And if we were late, he don't
allow us to attend his class. Also no phone in the class, otherwise he will get angry. I remember one
day, he kicked out a student from the class because of using phone. So not using phone is a
significant thing to remember.

Every day, he would teach us some theory of design, such as point, line, plane theory for one
hour. After one hour, he would let us go outside for getting some inspirations by ourselves. He loves
to take many photos. You can see when he shows you his camera len and proudly says
“Is Leica which means really good!”“taking a lot of pictures is always a good thing to get your
inspiration.”he said. Thus, we went to Guangfu village to take some photos.

    After we get enough photos, we start to make a mood board and keep discussing with teacher, tell what you’re going to do.

 In this procedure I were stuck, teacher thought my theme I have chosen is difficult to do. Fortunately, he taught me some skills and suggestions to modify a little bit of my work.

          Then, the last few days is the hardest time. I needed to stay up late for finishing my mood board(really big size) in one day. Another day, we need to create four patterns(in black and white) which is from your mood board. So I spent whole day, no sleep, to think and design my original patterns. Finally, you have to give yourself a self-assessment for all of the works(mood board,4 patterns)

   On the final day, teacher would give you a feedback and a scored by himself. I gave myself 75%, but teacher gave me 78% which is great he said. Though teacher Hann is strict,  but we learnt a lot and got ideas from him. He gave us a lot of suggestions of future practicing, like I need to draw ceiling everyday because he want me to be specialized in one thing, then I can do better job of that or create a new thing. I’m appriciated I can meet him at this workshop.
